I'm really coming into the garden and make my yard a port of savings, but I just don 't know what to plant.

You really can’t beat the “Sunset Western Garden Book” for those of us living in “the west.” It’s specific to our climate and has a zone rating for our area too. The book is easy to follow and covers a wide variety of plants. It’s a great book to begin with!

You can pick it up easily…bookstores, home improvement stores, Costco. As far as what to plant, go to a good local nursery and begin to ask questions, they will be very helpful and offer good advice. Good luck.

I was going to suggest the Sunset Western Garden book, but looks like someone beat me to it!

Like the other two have said, Sunset Western Garden book is the Gardener’s bible! I use mine all the time for quick references. It’s published with updates almost every year.

The back of the book has many references for more local information.

Another suggestion is you ask other gardeners what they like and use. Sometimes the best advice for local gardeners are other gardeners in the neighborhood, as they know the local climates best, they know the local plants and weeds best.

    Have fun gardening!.
