I subscribed to Better Homes and Gardens a few years ago and quickly disliked it because every article was trying to market a new product, often at outrageous prices.

If you want to try organic gardening, try for some great ideas.

I also like Sunset Magazine, customized to the Southwest (AZ and NM) although there are also great travel and recipes in the magazine

Once you get started with your garden you will develop your own taste and perhaps discover better or other garden magazines more to your liking.

There might even be some garden magazines at your local library.

Blooms & Birds, or Birds & Blooms. I can never remember which way it’s suppose to be even though we subscribe to it. Lot’s of interesting and educational articles worth reading.

I don’t subscribe to one myself, if I need advice I go to google or here. I haven’t found a magazine that seems to cater to ‘regular folk’ and their gardens, they all seem to be about like gardens at mansions and such. But, if I do want to brows a magazine, I do it while I am at home depot or lowes or walmart, they have magazines (especially home depot) near the garden sections, and I can get ideas from those. Go to your local home depot or garden center, brows what mags they have and see if they fit your needs, sorta like “test driving” the mags! :)

    Backyard Living!

This magazine has no advertisements. It has lots of great contests with small (wind chimes) and large (garden tractor) prizes. It also has lots of stories (funny and helpful) written by readers.

Backyard Living’s entire magazine is devoted to landscaping, planting, and gardening, while Better Homes and Gardens also features indoor decorating and cooking, as well as some self-improvement articles. It isn’t as gardener-intense as Backyard Living.

I am a landscaper/planter/gardener by hobby, and Backyard Living is a “never throw away” magazine!

Another poster suggested Birds and Blooms. This is also an excellent “no advertisement” magazine; I believe it’s published by the same folks that do Backyard Living and Taste of Home.
